CLOSING MY BUSINESS

I’ve decided to close MIKEYSART.BIZ LTD for a few reasons;

Firstly ‘ I’m a terrible businessman. I never got into this to do admin. I just want to make art.
I ended up making hundreds of signs and booklets which just became a pain in the arse. I began to lose interest in creating stuff for myself. All I was doing was trying to make crap for people to buy. None of it, if I’m honest, made me proud that I made it. I started make my art in the same way as the corporate shit I was making. I look at all the stuff I’ve done and none of it has any soul. It just looks like neat corporate illustration.

I still feel like an imposter almost 7 years on. This makes me under-value my work. I would give anyone “mates rates” even if I had never met them before. I still do….

So from now on I’m just going to be an artist who makes art for me. If it’s any good then I’m sure somebody will buy it. I’m going to start pushing myself to do stuff I’d never have the bottle to do.

This year (2023) I’m going to enter something into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. If it gets rejected then I’ll enter something else in another exhibition. The disappointment couldn’t be worse than finding out that my accountant made more money from my business, this year, than I did!
